    The modern metallurgical industry offers various grades of steels. Steel has a number of classification features and characteristics, the main of which are yield strength, strength, chemical composition and toughness.

    Construction grades of steels according to DSTU 8539: 2015 indicate their guaranteed yield strength in MPa: C255, C275, C345, etc. More detailed information can be found in the regulations. 

    Recently, the industry has launched the production of high-strength construction steels according to international standards, the use of which increases the efficiency of sections of elements and reduces their size.

    Factories produce a wide range of profiles from steel to provide a variety of structural elements and forms, which include:

    · Sheet metal;

    · Hot-rolled profiles;

    · Bent profiles with open section;

    · Closed bent welded profiles;

    · Thin-walled cold-bent elements.

    The use of standard profiles makes it possible to use standard solutions for elements and joints, as well as reduces the time of production of steel structures due to the availability of profiles in the warehouses of steel manufacturers.

    Foreign rolled steel factories offer profiles that are different from domestic ones, with more efficient geometric characteristics. For example, most modern steel profiles have parallel legs. Such profiles are massively replacing similar profiles with different legs: I-beams with parallel faces of legs (IPE), wide-leg I-beams (HE), wide-leg column I-beams (HD), U-beams with parallel faces of legs (UPE), extra wide leg beams (HL), etc.

    Modernization at metallurgical and steel rolling factories of Ukraine will allow to use analogues of foreign rolled steel profiles at construction sites. It will also simplify the process of adapting construction designs.

    At the same time, Ukraine has a highly developed industry for the production of steel structures, and if necessary and economically feasible welded sections consisting of sheets or standard profiles from the assortment can be made, which are equivalent to any analogues in terms of efficiency.

    Due to a wide range of rolled sheets, it is possible to manufacture bent-welded steel profiles in cold or hot conditions. The use of steel closed section profiles makes it possible to implement a wide range of architectural solutions. Such elements are especially effective in spatial systems, as well as in structures in an aggressive environment.

    The main factors influencing the use of closed sections in construction:

    · Aesthetic attractiveness;

    · Reduced metal consumption in spatial structures and the possibility of seamless connection of elements;

    · High manufacturability;

    · Thin walls;

    · Optimal characteristics of profiles in calculation of stability, bending, torsion;

    · Reduction of corrosion and fire protection costs;

    · Reduction of costs for installation and operation of structures.
